Is there a real estate guru out there? if the assessed property value of a house is 150k and i purchase it for 80k, how much would my property tax be? You go by the assessed value. Call the tax assessor?s office and ask about the procedures for a re-assessment. Tell them you just bought the house and believe the original tax assessment is too high. If they decline to re-assess (some jurisdictions require that a challenge to be filed on assessment within 60 to 90 days of the assessment), then you will have to wait for the next regularly scheduled assessment (note that some jurisdictions may have alternate provisions leaving home for a sing that changes hands ? you might ask about that also)
