Beauty and Violence

But poetry is its own remove, and Rekdal?s description is full of barely contained excitement, the adjectives reaching over line-breaks for their nouns twice in the first three lines, runs of heavily stressed syllables rattling against each other, as in ?smolt fume smacks against glass,? with its intricate networks of matching and opposing consonants and vowels. (Say it out loud, paying attention to the ways your lips, tongue, and vocal cords move.) And then the relief that starts to set in after ?the way,? including a few runs of iambic regularity (?the vessels/ can return to dock,? ?rise and fall along the weirs?), an orderliness that?s much more vibrant than the sanitizing order it describes.

Make Your Business Flourish Through Extensive Video Marketing ...

If you haven?t tapped into the power of video marketing for your Internet marketing needs, you are leaving a lot of profit on the table. If you really want to drive targeted traffic to your site without any big costs, then video marketing is the way to go. Many top Internet marketers have used this marketing medium to grow their online businesses and are still reaping in the benefits. The following outlines the best way to kick off your video marketing campaign and maximize the potential that you can reach with it:

Welbeck Group
Create a Full Blown Video Sales Page

Many marketers underestimate the power of Twitter but what it can do for you is unquestionable. Twitter is a very easy way to attract the targeted traffic you need, you can use it to network with all the right people. If you have videos and put them on your Twitter, you?ll immediately gain a higher level of exposure, as well as more conversions. It?s almost like putting your videos on steroids. When you want to make your business grow, the viral nature of video through Twitter is something you absolutely cannot ignore. When a person on Twitter sees an interesting tweet they can "retweet" it, which means they can spread your videos to an ever wider audience, which will then in turn spread them even further. All this does is prove that your video marketing can reach unprecedented heights when social networking is thrown in the mix.

Understand the Market You Deal In

Publishing videos on different sites is a great way to increase traffic to you site. You just want to make sure you go about it in the right way. Every minute of every day sees millions of new videos uploaded to the Internet. Therefore, you have to finish the video with a call to action, so you can make it work for you. Television and online videos are treated the same way by people; therefore, you have to get their attention within the first few seconds. So if you place your website URL only at one place, when the video ends, the viewer might not catch it. Try to intersperse it throughout your video; you might even just be able to embed it at the bottom of the video throughout, so they see it. The best way to do this is to have the URL pop up every 5 ? 10 seconds before it fades off. Also, how long your video is will largely determine the number of times your URL is displayed to your customer. Try to figure out your ideal numbers for that. And yes, don?t forget to bold your call to action, it pays.

Not only is internet video marketing effective but it can be a crucial part of setting your business apart. If you?ve never considered making internet video marketing part of your business? campaigns you don?t know how much potential traffic you?re losing every day. Video sharing is widely popular on the internet and sites such as Youtube have huge audiences just waiting to be tapped into, people not only use these videos as entertainment but as a way to influence their own purchasing decisions. Start on the journey of video marketing so you can improve your business through one of the most rapidly growing marketing tools available on the internet.

Justin Bieber on Boyfriend: All About Selena!

If I was your boyfriend, never let you go/Keep you on my arm girl, you'd never be alone/I can be a gentleman, anything you want...

So Justin Bieber croons in the first track off his upcoming album, "Boyfriend." Did he write the sweet lyrics with anyone in mind? Another young superstar, perhaps? Yes.

"She loves it," Bieber Carson Daly on AMP Radio yesterday, talking about Selena Gomez, of course. "It is about her."

The artist also appeared on Radio Disney (above) and said all the right things about actually being a quality boyfriend for Selena. Go ahead and take notes, fellas:

"You just have to be honest, that's the first thing, because if you're not honest, then the relationship is just not a good relationship. At the end of the day, your girl would appreciate you being honest more than lying to her and vice versa."

Bieber added that he's "loving and patient" in his relationship, while millions of fans around the globe added: OMG, I love him so much, he's so adorable and Selena better treat him well or else she'll have to answer to me. Call me, Justin!!!!

Business Intelligence for Security and Alarm Companies ...

I just read a story about an application in the US which I posted on our Facebook Page about an alarm company which is providing an application for people who use their home alarm systems, which uses geofences (a line around an area, such as your property)? drawn with a mouse on a map to send a notification to people?s mobiles when they have left home, but haven?t set the alarm.

Of course the first thing I thought of was why didn?t someone in New Zealand think of that. The answer is probably that alarm and security companies in New Zealand are probably too focussed on BAU (Business As Usual) although I?d love to be proved wrong.

Of course GeoSmart has the technology to enable a solution like this. It would be easy to do and could be a huge value add to the purchase of a home burglar alarm. I?d probably go a step further and enable the possibility of arming the alarm remotely when you realise you have dones this and you have already left, or the ability to disarm it if you have someone at home that doesn?t have the code and has just set the alarm off.

I had previously thought that the security industry could use our BIonaMAP application as well, but have focussed on industries where we already have client demand. As you can see on the web page above, BIonaMAP allows you to see your customer locations on a map and run queries from your business data and view it on a map. This could include:

  • Show all customers on a map who have a particular type of alarm
  • Show all customers whose alarm needs a preventative maintenance visit
  • Show all customers who hasn?t ad a visit or sales call within a certain period of time
  • Show all customers in an area by the number of security guard visits
  • Show scheduled visits by security guard run on different nights of the week, different staff in different colours
  • Show results of sales calls including yes, no, maybe or by competitor brand
  • Show domestic clients by demographic
  • Find new clients by demographic statistics e.g. household income right down to street addresses within a mesh block

As an example, this picture illustrates using BIonaMAP to find areas where the people have lived in their homes for between 5 and 9 years AND have a household income of over $80,000 p.a. which could possibly be a good target market to purchase monitored home burglar alarms. BIonaMAP can even provide street addresses for the houses within those shaded areas.

Top Chinese politician's ouster tied to nepotism

BEIJING (AP) ? One of China's highest-profile politicians interfered in an investigation involving a family member before he was fired last week, according to a leaked transcript that has escalated what already was the country's biggest political scandal in years.

Bo Xilai's removal as Communist Party boss of Chongqing city appears to have brought a screeching stop to the career of one of the country's most ambitious politicians.

The scandal has played out in an exceptionally public way ? albeit with few concrete details released ? and has fueled speculation that Bo's ouster was linked to competition for top spots when a new generation of national leaders is installed later this year.

The nepotism allegation against Bo is unusual, partly because such abuse of power is believed to be widely tolerated among Chinese officials. It was unclear whether Bo was being punished for his own missteps or those of his underlings ? or whether his hubris and self-promotion have run afoul of the staid Communist Party elite.

Bo was dismissed Thursday as part of an investigation into Chongqing police chief Wang Lijun's flight to a U.S. Consulate in what the leaked transcript of official comments said was a panicky attempt to gain political asylum. Wang has been placed under custody and his actions denounced as a serious breach of discipline.

Little had been known publicly about what prompted Wang's asylum attempt, or the nature of the apparent rift in his once-close relationship with Bo, who hand-picked him to lead the Chongqing force and carry out a wide-ranging crackdown on organized crime.

However, a transcript of remarks by an unnamed official from the Communist Party's General Office that have circulated on the Internet say that Bo tried to sideline Wang in late January after Wang informed him of an investigation into one of Bo's relatives. The relative was not identified. As the offspring of one of communist China's founding fathers, Bo and his family enjoy considerable influence.

The General Office remarks, said to have been delivered orally to leading officials last week, were released Tuesday mostly on websites outside China, including the usually reliable dwnews.com and Boxun.com

They said that Bo was "displeased" with Wang because of the investigation, and transferred him to a post overseeing education, science and other less sensitive matters in violation of a rule requiring him to first notify the Ministry of Public Security in Beijing.

Fearing for his safety, Wang entered the U.S. Consulate in the nearby city of Chengdu on Feb. 6 and submitted a written request for asylum, according to the remarks. Wang left of his own accord one day later and was flown to Beijing for questioning by the Ministry of State Security. He has not been heard from since.

Chinese officials have slammed the consulate visit a serious breach of protocol. U.S. diplomats have refused to discuss what took place during Wang's visit.

Government and party spokesmen in Beijing and Chongqing did not immediately respond to faxed requests to verify the authenticity of the leaked transcript.

In a sign of the sensitivity of the matter, search requests for Bo Xilai and Wang Lijun were blocked on the Internet inside China, which is strictly monitored by government censors. In some cases, people have gotten around the blocks and posted the reports on social media sites.

Bo, 62, had been considered a leading candidate for the party's all-powerful Politburo Standing Committee when new members are chosen this fall.

A former commerce minister and head of industrial Liaoning province, Bo remains on the party's 25-member Politburo and his ultimate fate remains unknown. While the transcript did not indicate he was charged with any crimes, it said that, as Chongqing's top official, Bo had "main leadership responsibility" for the Wang affair.

"Once this issue has been thoroughly and clearly investigated, there will again be a final conclusion and the taking of appropriate action," it said.

Most Chinese officials or their family are believed engaged in some form of corruption or abuse of their positions, and its unlikely that Bo would have been harmed by interfering in the investigation if Wang had not visited the U.S. consulate.

Although the somewhat flamboyant Bo claimed as recently as last week to have "no assets," his flamboyant personality and the much-discussed exploits of his son at Oxford and Harvard have made him a frequent target of such accusations.

Throughout his career, Bo showed a flair for publicity, and alongside his well-publicized clampdown on gangsters, won countrywide notoriety for enthusiastically promoting the revival of Cultural Revolution era songs and stories. That made him a darling of the country's remaining Maoists but also drew criticism for glorifying the memory of one of the most violent and chaotic periods in modern Chinese history.

Chongqing is already moving on from the Bo era, with city workers called to weekend rallies to pledge support for new party secretary Zhang Dejiang and bureaucrats told to strictly adhere to Beijing's orders.

Heart problems in Endurance Athletes | Morpheus

Marathon runners on the run in city

The?message has been well-publicised in all media channels with increasing regularity ?that exercise is good for you. Move your body, whether that be in the gym pushing weights or playing football or hockey on a Saturday morning with your local team and you will most likely get fitter, lose a few pounds and reduce the likelihood of getting some type of metabolic disease and even some forms of cancer. For many, including a number of our personal training clients exercising a few times a week is the most that their busy schedules allows. However, there is a small but growing band of exercisers for whom anything less than extreme levels of exercise training, signing up to marathons,?
triathlons and the like is where it?s at and anything less than this type of training is not going to cut it. The popularity of endurance sports has increased with more than 850 triathlon events and hundreds more marathons and cycle races staged last year. ?However, whilst all this is to be applauded and encouraged, like a lot of things in life can you get too much of a good thing? Are excessive amounts of endurance exercise potentially doing more harm than good? We already know of the potential catabolic effects on skeletal muscle tissue that results in excessive amounts of cardio training but some new research is beginning to look at the possible effects on the heart(muscle) of doing too much endurance exercise which may cause problems later in life. Some scientific research is beginning to show that placing huge loads on the heart over years of prolonged endurance exercise can alter its structure and workings.

Published in the Journal of Sports Medicine the research conducted at Liverpool John Moores University the paper states that ?Lifelong repetitive bouts of arduous endurance exercise may result in fibrotic replacement of the myocardium (heart muscle) in susceptible individuals, resulting in?.the development of arrythmias (uneven heartbeat). Obviously, the key phrase here is ?susceptible individuals? and this post isn?t intended to halt all runners, triathletes et al. in their tracks and have them rush off to the nearest cardiac unit for testing. However, it is intended to bring forth current research and make those who participate in long bouts of endurance training aware of the potential risks. Some of the research using MRI?s compared veteran marathon runners hearts to older non-runners hearts and also younger male endurance athletes. The research showed that half the veteran marathon runners had fibrosis of the heart. Earlier research in a separate study on triathletes demonstrated that the heart muscles are stretched after long endurance training events and that although most of the subjects heart muscles recovered the study warned ?Chronic structural changes and reduced right ventricular function are evident in some of the most practised athletes?.

Less is More

So, should all the would-be first-time marathon runners, seasoned endurance athletes, and middle-aged triathletes cease their training and opt for something shorter and more intense? Well no, but it does perhaps highlight the possible risks that are involved in these types of events and hopefully will make would-be runners ensure they are fully-tested before embarking on a training programme that does place a lot of stress on the heart. Testing, in the forms of exercise stress tests and their like can be useful and advisable in this instance. Should we therefore as a personal training company be encouraging other forms of exercise to an increasingly health-conscious and receptive public? For many a marathon is a one-off event, a chance to challenge oneself, an opportunity to raise money for a good cause or to kick-start a personal fitness programme. But, it?s time consuming and not everyone has the mental strength to continue with this type of training. For many years now the less is more movement or to be more specific the interval based training approach has been gathering momentum. The recent TV programme featuring Michael Mosley?BBC iPlayer ? Horizon: 2011-2012: The Truth About Exercise?showed what could be achieved in short bursts of training ? helping to reduce blood sugar levels, improve insulin function and offset Type 2 diabetes. A similar study in Canada compared the effect of cycling at a moderate pace for 90-120 minutes with a workout comprising 20 seconds of gut-busting pedalling followed by four minutes? rest, repeated 4-6times. After two weeks, both groups of subjects displayed almost identical improvements in aerobic fitness, despite the fact that one set of subjects had actually been pedalling for only 15 minutes, whilst the other over 10 hours!

The rise and rise of the HIIT ( high-intensity interval training) and Tabata style methods have been adopted by many personal trainers in London and no doubt will be the preferred exercise training method of the time-poor. The scientific evidence certainly points to a productive and efficient training approach suitable for today?s busy lifestyles. Even modified Tabata style training programmes have been shown to be effective in improving overall health even after only a few weeks of training. More impressive is the enhanced functioning of blood vessels and heart among people with established cardiovascular disease.

Of the many methods and approaches that are available to condition and train to improve one?s fitness the overriding factor that should always be borne in mind is to find an activity that captivates the interest and keeps us coming back for more. Essentially an activity we enjoy. Once we?ve found something we actually like doing then we?re more likely to stick to it. If this is long endurance events, triathlons etc then so be it ?(full check up beforehand highly-recommended!).?

Icy Saturn moon ?may be active?

Nasa's Cassini spacecraft has spied possible signs of geological activity on Saturn's icy moon Dione.

It sees features that resemble hot fissures and indications of a possible ice volcano on the satellite.

The fissures look remarkably similar to the "tiger stripes" found on Saturn's moon Enceladus, which spew powerful jets of water into space.

On Dione these features may now be idle, but other lines of evidence suggest some activity is ongoing.

The new findings suggest this saturnian moon could be a more dynamic place than was previously supposed.

?Start Quote

We haven't detected obvious jets, like we have at Enceladus. But we're still looking?

End Quote Dr Linda Spilker Jet Propoulsion Laboratory

Dr Bonnie J Buratti, from Nasa's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, presented the results at the 43rd Lunar and Planetary Science Conference (LPSC) in The Woodlands, Texas.

The case for activity on Dione relies on several different lines of evidence.

Previous bservations of Saturn's magnetic field have picked up a stream of charged particles originating from Dione's surface. In addition, scientists announced earlier this month that they had detected a thin oxygen atmosphere around the moon.

But the most obvious evidence, the JPL researcher explained, was to be found in the moon's surface features. For example, one large region in Dione's leading hemisphere is relatively free of impact craters.

Either material flowed into these craters, filling them in, or they were covered over by debris from an eruption. A clue comes from the identification of an apparent cryovolcano in this flat region of Dione.

Cryovolcanoes have so far been found on Enceladus, Neptune's moon Triton, and - debatably - on Saturn's moon Titan. They erupt water-ammonia or methane instead of molten rock.

"We also see what I like to call a 'palaeo-tiger stripe', both on Tethys (another Saturnian moon) and Dione. It looks like a fossilised tiger stripe," Dr Buratti said.

Images from Cassini also reveal the presence of "rampart craters" on Dione, which result when a space rock slams into soft material. The could suggest the ice beneath the surface is hotter than usual.

Heat search

During the question and answer session following Dr Buratti's talk, John Spencer from the South West Research Institute revealed that Cassini's CIRS instrument had been searching for heat emission from the moon, but had so far failed to find it.

Dr Buratti agreed that evidence of hotspots would provide a "smoking gun" in the case for geological activity on Dione.

Linda Spilker, project scientist on the Cassini mission, explained that if there was any activity at Dione, it would be at a lower level than on Enceladus.

"We haven't detected obvious jets, like we have at Enceladus. But we're still looking," Dr Spilker, who is also based at JPL, told BBC News.

Prof William McKinnon, from Washington University in St Louis, commented: "I suspect that not a lot is going on on Dione right now."

But he said things could have been different in the past, adding: "There's clearly been resurfacing... we know something happened."

The discovery of geysers on Enceladus, which are supplied with liquid water by a sub-surface ocean, has been one of the science highlights of Cassini's mission.

It moves around Saturn in a distorted, oval-shaped orbit rather than a circular one. This causes Enceladus to be pulled and squeezed by Saturn's gravity, inducing the heat that enables geological activity.

Question by El Nene Catracho : Is there a real estate guru out there? my property tax would drop if i pay less than the assesed value?
Is there a real estate guru out there? if the assessed property value of a house is 150k and i purchase it for 80k, how much would my property tax be? How do I calculate the property tax?the answere are grat, but, how does this applyies to my case. Can someone explain.the answere are grat, but, how does this applyies to my case. Can someone explain. Best answer:

Answer by Steve D
You go by the assessed value. Call the tax assessor?s office and ask about the procedures for a re-assessment. Tell them you just bought the house and believe the original tax assessment is too high. If they decline to re-assess (some jurisdictions require that a challenge to be filed on assessment within 60 to 90 days of the assessment), then you will have to wait for the next regularly scheduled assessment (note that some jurisdictions may have alternate provisions leaving home for a sing that changes hands ? you might ask about that also)

NASA's TRMM satellite added up the rainfall generated from Cyclone Lua as it made landfall in northern Australia on March 17, and tracked southward through March 19. The largest rainfall amounts appeared just off the coast before Lua made landfall, and continued generating heavy rainfall as it moved inland.

On Saturday, March 17, 2012, Lua's center crossed the Australia coastline at Pardoo about 3 p.m. (local time/Australia) bringing winds gusting up to 155 mph (250 kph) and heavy rainfall. The Sydney Morning Herald reported that Port Hedland residents experienced maximum sustained winds up to 93 mph (150 kph).

On March 18, 2012, Cyclone Lua continued to move further inland and track south toward Wiluna and Kalgoorlie. At 8 a.m. local time on March 18, the Australian Bureau of Meteorology estimated that Tropical Cyclone Lua was about 137 miles (~220 kilometers) north of Wiluna and was moving south at ~19 mph (30 kph).

NASA's Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) satellite can add up rainfall totals from space. As it flew over Cyclone Lua between March 17and 19, TRMM calculated rainfall from the storm. The heaviest rainfall appeared to fall just off the northwestern Australia coast, with rainfall amounts there reaching as high as 20 inches (~500 mm). Rainfall amounts seemed to fall off drastically as Lua made landfall, with amounts ranging between 4 and 8 inches (~100 to 200 mm).

Reuters news reported that the sparsely populated area seemed unscathed, there were no injuries and iron ore operations resumed. Port Hedland is the area's largest iron ore terminal and its anchorage was closed for more than two days as Lua made landfall.

The Australian Bureau of Meteorology reported that Cyclone Lua was the strongest cyclone to hit Australia in 2012, and the most powerful since Cyclone Yasi in 2011.

Elephants flee as fire burns on Mount Kenya slopes

(AP) ? A fire on the slopes of Kenya's tallest mountain is sending big game animals like elephants fleeing for their lives, as wildlife agents and British troops are fighting to put out several fires, officials said Monday.

The flames have already consumed hundreds of acres of forest on Mount Kenya, said Paul Udoto, a spokesman for the Kenya Wildlife Service. The fire has covered the spiky mountain in a haze of smoke.

Tourists staying in mountain lodges are safe, Udoto said, but elephants are among the many animals fleeing.

"The elephants fled the area but they are still within the protected areas of the mountain," Udoto said.

Firefighters said they haven't come across any animal hurt or killed by the fire.

Photos of the fire show small bursts of flame and thick white smoke hanging over the mountain's lower elevations. Mount Kenya is the second-highest peak in Africa, at 5,199 meters (17,057 feet).

"There's fires all over the place," said Iain Douglas-Hamilton, the founder of the group Save the Elephants. "It's because of the dryness. But I bet people are setting the fires ... accidental but human-generated."

Fires are also burning in the nearby Aberdare National Park. Douglas-Hamilton said the fires will deprive animals of food and that he expects some to get caught in the flames.

Mount Kenya is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The U.N. organization describes the region as "one of the most impressive landscapes of Eastern Africa, with its rugged glacier-clad summits, Afro-alpine moorlands and diverse forests."

Susie Weeks, the executive officer of the Mount Kenya Trust, a group that works to protect the mountain's wildlife, said at least three separate fires were burning. She said in an email that the British military and the Kenya Wildlife Service were coordinating "beautifully" on Monday.

"Today is a much better day! Less chaos, more help, low winds and a bit of cloud. However we need to sustain this level of attack on the fires for a couple of days to succeed," she wrote.

The fire is burning forest that serves as a water catchment, potentially affecting the region's water supply and hydroelectric dams. Wildlife would also be forced to move, said Gitau, the deputy warden of Mount Kenya National Park.

Gitau said four of six burning sites in the forest had been suppressed, but there is a chance the fire will re-ignite because of the dry and windy conditions. He said the cause of the fire is not known, but 90 percent of the fires in Mount Kenya are caused by human activity, either poachers or honey gatherers.

"Sometimes it's accidental like a cigarette butt that hasn't been completely extinguished," he said.

Patrick Wanjohi, the director of the Mountain Rock Lodge, a holiday resort on the lower slopes of Mount Kenya, said the forest will not regenerate fast because of the high altitude. He said animals are likely to flee into farms at lower elevations, leading to human-animal conflict.

Capt. Maz Kingston, a spokeswoman for the British Army Training Unit Kenya, said the British military has helped carry out an aerial assessment of the fire, and is providing command and control for the firefighting response. British military vehicles are helping move firefighters close to the flames.

"Fires have been going on for last couple months with varying degrees of intensity," Kingston said. "It's very intense and it's quite extensive across the mountain. ... We had a little bit of rain last night which tamped it down a little bit."

How does star-making start? For first time, scientists might get a glimpse.

Scientists have yet to see a star form all on its own ? away from the influence of surrounding stars. Now, researchers say they might have found a candidate.?

Long before a star is a gleam in anyone's telescope, it begins its ascent to stardom as a cold fragment in a vast cloud of gas and dust.

A team of astronomers reports capturing one of these stellar embryos in a small corner of an enormous molecular cloud some 600 light-years away in the constellation Perseus.

If the team's interpretation of its data holds up to further scrutiny, the region would open a window on a critical, poorly understood stage of a star's evolution.

Much of what astronomers have learned about star formation comes from studying molecular clouds where stars already have formed. These clouds continue to produce relatively dense clumps of dust and gas that will become another generation of stars. But the formation and evolution of these newcomers can be heavily influenced by their already burning siblings.

For example, young stars burn hot and so give off strong stellar winds, which can sweep surrounding regions clean of other gas clumps. When there are clusters of young stars, this process becomes especially powerful. Even a?star ending its life in an enormous explosion called a supernova can?stifle star formation nearby because of?the material the blast ejects. On the other hand, at longer distances, stellar winds or a shock wave from a supernova can trigger clumping.

These processes make it difficult to answer the question: What processes influence the first stars to form in a cloud??The segment of the Perseus molecular cloud the team studied hosts no other stars, providing a pristine stellar nursery for testing hypotheses about these initial influences.

?Some stars have to form first for those later triggers to develop,? says James Di Francesco, an astronomer at the University of Victoria in British Columbia and a member of the team reporting the results in an upcoming issue of the journal Astronomy & Astrophysics.

?What's exciting about this discovery is that we see what we think is a clump of gas that's formed within a molecular cloud that is further fragmenting into individual pieces ? forming a first generation of cores? available to become stars, he says.

?It's a rare find,? noted Sarah Sadavoy, a graduate student at the University of Victoria and the study's lead author, in a prepared statement.

She and her colleagues note that in 2010 another group reported the discovery of a candidate region for still-gathering fragments ? the even denser sections of a gas clump that can eventually become stars ? but that team was unable to detect any individual fragments.

The region of the Perseus cloud Ms. Sadavoy and colleagues studied is known as Perseus B1-E. It's one of five prominent regions of gas and dust in the cloud dense enough to act as a large-scale stellar nursery. Two of the other regions host either evolved stars or so-called young stellar objects, which are much farther along on their path from cold clump to cosmic beacon.
