Merchandising, in the retail business world, is the act of presenting your goods in a manner that is enticing to customers and promotes purchase.
Or the Wikipedia definition:
?Merchandising is the methods, practices, and operations used to promote and sustain certain categories of commercial activity.? In the broadest sense, merchandising is any practice which contributes to the sale of products to a retail consumer. At a retail in-store level, merchandising refers to the variety of products available for sale and the display of those products in such a way that it stimulates interest and entices customers to make a purchase.?
Now when you read that definition, doesn?t it make sense that an online business would profit from this methodology as well?? It certainly does to me.
Many marketers feel that there is some easy way out, some quick method to just have the cash start rolling in, and they don?t take the time to build a pleasant customer experience.
You need to create a buying environment for your visitors, if you create a crappy-looking site, they aren?t going to have the trust to buy from you.? Go out of your way to make things look legitimate.
I know a lot of people out there think differently.? Even some of the best internet marketing training I?ve ever received has taught me??don?t worry about what theme you?re going to use, worry about creating unique content?.
To a certain degree, that?s true?but at the end of the day, if someone thinks your site looks shady, they aren?t going to give you their credit card.? People are a lot smarter and aware about what?s happening on the internet and they will call you out if you look illegitimate.
