I don?t think we need doubt whether Multi Level Marketing (MLM) has more than its fair share of people criticising the industry for the promise of untold riches.

To decide if the industry does indeed offer individuals a route to success, it makes sense, before we get into the confusion of opinions, to actually define what we mean by success.

Success?

Now that opens a whole new can of worms; people have different definitions and rather than just quote the dictionary, would it not be more appropriate to allow each to define what success means to them?

As this is a much broader question, it is reasonable to assume that many in the MLM industry, have never taken the time, trouble or been prepared to invest enough emotional energy to clarify in great detail specifically what they are trying to achieve with their business.

To be fair though, is this not the same for life in general?

For those both inside and outside MLM , defining with crystal clarity , our own view of success and whether we are achieving it in life, may prove an extremely painful exercise; it is much more comfortable to either bury our head in the sand, or just leave it there.

So Does MLM Provide a Route To Success?

To some, an additional few hundred dollars a month supplies the family with those ?little extras? to make life more pleasant, and if the MLM industry provides this, then by definition for this individual, it has been a successful experience.

To others who are more committed and sincere in their endeavour, there is the opportunity to achieve the lifestyle they desire?.. if they are prepared to work hard, study, and master the learnable skill-sets necessary for achievement in this or any other walk of life

Without doubt only a few MLM practitioners do make significant incomes ,yet this criticism should not be levelled exclusively at the MLM sector as in every other avenue, be it work, professional sport, the film industry etc few ascend to superstar status and enjoy the trappings this brings, so why should the Network Marketing industry be hung out to dry?

Traditional Route to Success?

The traditional route to success, educationally underpinned, promotes hard study, good grades, college/university and the goal of securing a well paid job.

Surely success is a double edged sword and if the lack of success is levied at the MLM industry, how does an individual following the traditional and more accepted pathway through life fair?

Upon investigation it is slightly depressing to realise the vast majority (circa 95%) of those reaching retirement age today have insufficient cash-flow to sustain, let alone improve their lifestyle;doesn?t that fact just make you want to jump up out of bed on a Monday morning?

Benefits of MLM?

Having been in the MLM Industry many years, actually building an organisation is relatively easy, the most difficult issue being to work out genuinely WHY to invest time, effort and emotional energy required into the enterprise.

For some, the ?JOB? provides a sense of identity, a status in life and vantage point from which to survey their own particular journey through the maze.Always ready, in social interaction, with the question ? and what do you do for a living??

Remove this and what?s left? An interesting question pondered by many if, and when, they are placed in the ?at risk? category in their job.

There is an old adage: ?Dig your well before you are thirsty?

And today??. People are living longer, retirement ages are increasing, state support reducing??.. not a particularly appealing prospect to those currently at the coal face.

However, apart from financial rewards, there are many other benefits afforded through the industry for the sincere individual.

A successful MLM organisation is built on relationships, and adding value to peoples lives. To sustain an organisation it is necessary to take your eyes off yourself and help others???to give and to give and to give? as Zig Ziggler suggests ? you can have everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.?

In addition, the acquisition of ?soft -skills? self confidence, personal responsibility, time management, prioritisation are to name but a few.

In our pressurised age, many husbands and wives spend little time together; however working together in a joint venture can bring significant benefits to the family unit.

In addition are not the lessons learned through starting your own business and accepting personal responsibility of intrinsic value?

Easy Money

For those perpetually chasing the quick buck and easy money, it is best to give MLM a wide birth as surprisingly enough, this is not a place to find it
