Computer Games Mobile: PlayStation Network Gaming Back This Week

Portal 2 Cooperative Mode Promotional Shot

I?ve been playing a PlayStation Network game the past few weeks?no, really. You thought the PSN was six feet under? The game?s called ?try to login? anyway. So far I?m ?o? for...well, a bunch.

Hey, what else are we going to talk about? Most of the news about the PSN?s just guessing (much of it sloppy) by news sites filling crawl-space. Are we there yet? Nope. Are we there yet? Nope. And so forth.

The rumor du jour?this from ?a trusted Eurogamer source??puts the PSN partly back this week. The gaming part that is, originally due to return last week, but delayed indefinitely after Sony put its Sony Online Entertainment servers on ice after it realized hackers gained access to thousands of credit card numbers.

The game site also noticed a Europe-based Sony community manager?s Twitter missive, in which @MusterBuster wrote ?Once again, 31st May is the date for FULL restoration of PSN services. Restoration is phased. Online gaming will return BEFORE May 31st.?

That?s not a little confusing, since Sony initially said as much, then later denied May 31 was a date of any significance whatsoever.

Eurogamer apparently missed the news last week, when Sony itself said the gaming side of things would come back early (bits of media-streaming service Qriocity, too). While the SOE outage threw a wrench in those plans, we haven?t been led to believe the ?incremental? restoration approach changed, merely that the timeframe did.

In any event, fingers crossed (again) for the sake of some 77 million no doubt nettled gamers. That, and I?d like to win "the login game" this week at least once.
