Every organization says it values leadership and innovation but ...

If an organization wants more people to demonstrate leadership and innovation ? people willing to see and do things in a different way, people who want to take the organization to another level ? the message from the top must be clear and credible. That means the organization must stop promoting and standing behind managers who squelch discussion and new ideas and punish dissenters. Our surveys show that in most organizations a ?kill the messenger? ethos causes subordinates to distort or conceal negative information.
